Updating Contact Information

Keeping reader details accurate helps you personalise emails, create better segments and understand your audience.

Why contact data matters

Accurate reader information makes your campaigns more relevant. If you know a reader likes paranormal romance, audiobooks or a particular series, you can send better-targeted emails instead of sending everything to everyone.

Information you may update

  • Email address
  • First name
  • Last name
  • Genre preference
  • Trope preference
  • Preferred format
  • Country
  • Signup source
  • Reader magnet downloaded
  • ARC team status
  • Tags or attributes

How to update one contact

  • Open Contacts & Readers.
  • Search for the reader by email address or name.
  • Open their contact profile.
  • Edit the relevant fields.
  • Save your changes.

Bulk updates

If you need to update many contacts at once, it may be faster to prepare a CSV and import the updated information. This is useful when adding genre preferences, signup sources or ARC team labels to a large group of readers.

Best practices

  • Only collect information you actually plan to use.
  • Use consistent field names.
  • Avoid keeping outdated or unnecessary data.
  • Let readers update preferences where possible.
  • Review your reader data periodically.

Author example

If you write both contemporary romance and paranormal romance, you might update reader preferences so each reader receives the most relevant launch announcements.
