Importing Contacts

Importing contacts lets you move existing newsletter subscribers into EmailBoost so you can manage your reader audience in one place.

Before you import

Only import readers who have given you permission to send marketing emails. This may include subscribers from your previous newsletter platform, reader magnet signups, event signups, ARC team members, or readers who opted in through your website.

Never import

  • Purchased email lists.
  • Scraped email addresses.
  • Borrowed lists from another author.
  • Personal contacts who did not opt in.
  • Giveaway entrants who did not agree to receive your newsletter.

Preparing your CSV file

Most imports use a CSV file. At minimum, your CSV should include an email address column. It is also useful to include first name, signup source, genre preference, country, reader magnet downloaded, ARC team status, or format preference.

Recommended columns for authors

  • Email address
  • First name
  • Signup source
  • Genre interest
  • Trope interest
  • Preferred format
  • Reader magnet
  • Country

How to import contacts

  • Open EmailBoost.
  • Go to Contacts & Readers.
  • Choose the list you want to import into.
  • Select Import Contacts.
  • Upload your CSV file.
  • Match your CSV columns to the correct EmailBoost fields.
  • Confirm that these contacts have permission to receive your emails.
  • Review and complete the import.

After importing

  • Check how many contacts were imported.
  • Review skipped or invalid contacts.
  • Check duplicate handling.
  • Confirm custom fields imported correctly.
  • Create tags or segments if needed.

Troubleshooting

If fields appear in the wrong place, the CSV columns may have been mapped incorrectly. If contacts are skipped, check for missing email addresses, invalid formatting or duplicates.
