Contact Status

Contact status shows whether a reader can currently receive emails and why they may not be eligible for sending.

Common statuses

  • Subscribed: the reader can receive your marketing emails.
  • Unsubscribed: the reader has opted out.
  • Bounced: delivery failed, often due to an invalid or unavailable address.
  • Suppressed: the reader is blocked from sending for compliance or deliverability reasons.
  • Pending: the reader may still need to confirm subscription, depending on your settings.

Why statuses matter

Status protects both readers and your sender reputation. Sending to unsubscribed, invalid or suppressed addresses can damage trust and deliverability.

What authors should do

  • Respect unsubscribes.
  • Do not manually re-add suppressed contacts without clear permission.
  • Review bounces periodically.
  • Use confirmation emails where appropriate.
  • Keep imported lists clean.

If a reader says they are not receiving emails

  • Check their contact status.
  • Check if they unsubscribed previously.
  • Check for bounces or suppression.
  • Ask them to check spam or promotions folders.
  • If needed, invite them to sign up again through your official form.
